At the suggestion and recommendation of a good friend... I applied for the New York Portfolio Review with the following submission:
“The work I am submitting is a collection of images captured in 4 major cities: Los Angeles (CA), San Diego (CA), London (UK), and New York City (NY).
The collection is made up of various types of street photography. I try to capture moments that tell stories or images that might invoke a feeling or message.
There is a mixture of people, children, landscape, and inanimate objects with what I believe is a common theme to a general message in my photography – perspective.
In the same collection, there is an image of a homeless man and woman on the street contrasted with an image of my niece and nephew playing safely in their home. These people live in these grand, complex, and sometimes exhausting urban jungles. In these cities, you can find knotted roots and trees mimicking the struggles of the people in them. Cold concrete structures might seem daunting. Yet, you can also find peace… It can be found in a lit skyline at night or in a sea breeze while standing on a pier. On both spectrums, there is something to be taught, to be learned, or even simply appreciated.
All it takes is a little perspective and open mind.”
